British born Jacob Sutton is known for his innovative work in photography and film. He began his career as a fashion photographer in the early 2000’s, making a name for himself with work that celebrated movement and form.
Drawn by the wider possibilities of film, he started directing in 2010. Online success with films that focused on movement such as the A-Z of dance and collaborations with Paris Opera Ballet, led to commissions from Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and Nike. Sutton’s commitment to pushing conceptual boundaries and exploring experimental filmmaking, has led him to tackle widely diverse subjects in his personal work from building robots to creating a glowing man for the night-time snowboarding film, LED Surfer. His ability to apply his craft to such different subjects has resulted in unique collaborations such as an aerobatics film for Prada and fragrance commercials featuring cliff diving and downhill skateboarding for Chanel.
Sutton’s sensitivity to emotive story telling has come to the fore in his short films such as Desert Heart and the eccentric Hidden Depth that was selected for Raindance Festival 2024. His ability to create cinematic story has recently been celebrated in numerous campaigns for Ralph Lauren.
